CVS Trip Is A Wash

CVS

2 bags of Peanut Dark M&M, 2/$5 minus $1.50 man coupon
4 bags of Life Savers, BOGO @ $2.19 each minus 2 BOGO man coupon= FREE!
Infusium Shampoo, clearanced @ $3.50 minus $3 man coupon
Revlon Lip Color, $9.99
CVS 15 count makup wipes, $2.99 minus $2 CVS skin care coupon
1 King Size Hershey Bar (for the love of my life) $1

My sub-total before coupons was $26.86

Coupoons I used:
1 CVS skin care coupon= $2
4 Manufacturer Coupons=$8.88

Total after coupons $15.98

I used $6.96 in ECB’s

My total OOP was $9.02

I received $15.99 in ECB’s back and a raincheck for the Intuition razors that are on sale for $3.99 that I have 2 $4 off coupons for, which will make them FREE. I so love that word! FREE

This really irked me that they were out. This product has no ECB's tied to it, and when I asked for a raincheck you would have thought I was asking for all the money in their cash drawer.

Now that I have slept on it, I think I will go back today and insist that they special order them for me, that way I will be sure to get my two razors, instead of having to keep checking back. That will also ensure I am able to use my coupons before they expire. I wonder what kind of grief I will get over requesting a special order?

So, if you add up my ECB’s I used plus my OOP that is $15.98 minus the ECB’s I received back of $15.99, I’m going to call this trip a wash. What do you think?

KOOLICKLES

Here's another idea for you and your Kool-Aid. Kool-Aid Pickles!! Now before you laugh, read this from the New York Times...
Kool-Aid pickles violate tradition, maybe even propriety. Depending on your palate and perspective, they are either the worst thing to happen to pickles since plastic brining barrels or a brave new taste sensation to be celebrated.

The pickles have been spotted as far afield as Dallas and St. Louis, but their cult is thickest in the Delta region, among the black majority population. In the Delta, where they fetch between 50 cents and a dollar, Kool-Aid pickles have earned valued space next to such beloved snacks as pickled eggs and pigs’ feet at community fairs, convenience stores and filling stations. And as their appeal has widened, some people have seen a good business opportunity. Even the lawyers have gotten involved. -- NY Times

KOOL-ICKLES

1 - (46-ounce) jar whole dill pickles (not kosher due to garlic), drained1 - cup granulated sugar2 - cups water2 - packets unsweetened Cherry Kool-Aid (the size that makes 2-quarts)

Drain the juice from the pickle jar. It's not used in this recipe. Remove the pickles from the jar and cut each one in half lengthwise.... or dont. Not everyone does this, it just makes them quicker. Return the pickles to the jar.
In a large bowl, combine sugar, water and the contents of the two Kool-Aid packets. Mix until the sugar has completely dissolved. Pour enough of the liquid into the pickle jar to cover the pickles. Replace lid on jar and refrigerate several days to a week. The longer you let them sit, the better they get.

You end up with a sweet, sour, salty pickle treat, similar to bread and butter pickles.

Kool-Aid Jelly

Kool-Aid Jelly

6 cups sugar
3 cups water
¼ tsp. Baking soda
1 envelope strawberry Kool-Aid
1 6oz bottle Ball liquid pectin

In large pot, bring to a full rolling boil- sugar, water, soda and Kool-Aid.
Add liquid pectin and return to a full boil.
Boil for 1 minute.
Remove from heat and skim foam from top.
Immediately pour into hot canning jars and seal finger tight. Place in water bath and procss for 5 minutes.

NOTE: You must wash your canning jars in hot soapy water, rinse thoroughly, then place them in a large pot with their rings bring to a boil. Use a small pot to heat lids…BUT DO NOT BOIL. Keep them on the stove hot, while you prepare your jelly. Pull one jar at a time out of hot water bath to fill with jelly. Remember… rings are applied only finger tight.

If these notes are confusing for you then visit
Visual Recipes. They have a wonderful tutor with pictures on how to set up to make jelly and explain it step by step.

I’m going to make some strawberry and grape jelly to go into Christmas Gift baskets. I like jellies because they are so clear and pretty and I feel they are easy to make.

Kool-Aid Pies

It would seem everyone has over loaded on the Kool-Aid sales here lately. My store had Kool-Aid on sale 20 for $1. Then I also had coupons, buy 10 packs get two FREE. So I was able to get 24 packs for $1. You can only drink so much Kool-Aid. I will be posting a couple other uses for Kool-Aid this week, so check back if you have a stock pile and wonder what you will do with all of it. There is Kool-Aid ice cream, Kool-Aid Jelly, Koolickles, Kool-Aid yarn, and more!

These recipes are old recipes I've had for years. One came from a cooking magazine in 2000 and the other came from a family member. They are quick summer desserts. We like the Strawberry pie the best. I also like that there is no sugar added to the Strawberry pie.

You can use ANY flavor of Kool-Aid. Strawberry, Cherry, Lemon-Lime (Key-Lime), and Lemonade (Lemon). All kids love any of the blue flavors. lol

For the crust you can:
Use a prepared graham cracker crust -or-
Make your own “pat in the pan graham cracker crust” -or-
The original recipe for the key-lime calls for you to make a vanilla wafer crust, lining bottom and sides of pan with 36 vanilla wafers. Be sure to spray pan with nonstick cooking spray.

Kool-Aid Key Lime Pie

1 12oz can evaporated milk
1 cup sugar
1 (.14 oz) envelope unsweetened lemon-lime Kool-Aid
1 8oz tub Whipped topping

Pour milk into a small metal or glass mixing bowl. Add beaters to the bowl, cover and chill for at least 2 hours.
Prepare 9 inch pie plate with chosen crust.
Beat milk until soft peaks form.
Add sugar and drink mix; beat until thoroughly mixed.
Spoon into prepared pie pan.
Freeze for at least 4 hours.
Spread whipped topping on top of pie and garnish with fresh lime slices.

Kool-Aid Strawberry Creme Pie

1 12oz can evaporated milk
1 (.14 oz) envelope unsweetened lemon-lime Kool-Aid
1 8oz tub Whipped topping

In a medium bowl mix Kool-Aid and condensed milk, thoroughly.
Fold in Cool Whip.
Spread in desired prepared pie crust.
If desired, spread more Cool Whip on top. Garnish with fresh strawberry slices.
Chill for a minimum of 4 hours.

They had the 10oz jar for $2.79. Wooo Whoooo! Now if I can just pick a cashier that will not throw a shoe when I try to use it!

3 Planter Peanuts, $2.79 each, used $3 IP Planters coupon buy 3 Kraft or Oscar Mayer products, final cost FREE. Of course the register beeped, she stated she hated ip coupons, I asked her why. She said just the ones that were for more than the product was priced. I asked her why, she said because they get so many fraudulent coupons and then went on to punch it in anyway stating, "Dont worry about it, it's not like it's coming out of my pocket" and I told her "that's the way to look at it!" lol

My hubby was very pleased with me coming home with change left out of my $50.
Now that everything has settled down and I've thought about this trip, I realize I made an error! I had a $5 off $50 purchase coupon I could have used. I forgot to get milk and that would have brought it up to around $48. I could have then used 2 more free cat food coupons to reach my $50 and then gotten another $5 off.... DANG IT!!!

How Does Your Garden Grow?

My garden is doing great, just seems like it is growing sooooooo slow. Maybe it's just me being impatient for those fresh veggies. Fresh salads, fresh salsa's, fresh green beans!

I've been looking through my cookbook collection for new recipes to try when my veggies are ready.

I will be posting some of them to try out on our bountiful veggies at this time year.

This is from "The Fannie Farmer Cookbook".

Cucumber Cream
More a relish than a proper sauce, this is lovely and fresh-tasting with fish.
1 cucumber 2 Tblspn vinegar
1/2 cup sour cream Salt to taste
Peel and finely chop the cucumber. Pat dry of excess liquid, put in a bowl, and stir in the sour cream, vinegar, and salt.

Now I think this sounds like a delicious dip to spread on ritz crackers! I cant wait to try it.

CVS vs Kitty

I want your opinion here. Tell me who you think the winner is in this scenario.

I went to Cvs, picked up 4 Sally Hansen nail polish on sale for .99ea. (Along with other merchandise)

At time of check out, I handed the clerk 2 of the CVS coupons for $3 off 2 Sally Hansen coupons. He told me he wasnt sure what to do and needed to check with the manager.

She told him I could only use one coupon for the 4 polishes, since it would create overage and they do not pay overage. I told him I didnt want overage, I just wanted FREE nail polish, I would get two more (for a total of six using the two coupons) and he could adjust the coupons to $2.97 each.

She wouldnt go for that either. So I said fine, took back one coupon, and ended up paying $.96 for 4 of the nail polishes.

So when it's all boiled down, I wanted two nail polishes for FREE using the coupon.

I got 3 nail polishes for FREE, and only paid .96 (which is less than the sale price) for the fourth one.

Now, my question to you is, Who do you think came out ahead?
I have 3 more of these coupons. Had she taken one coupon for 2 polishes, she would have been out 8 polishes (2 for each of my 4 coupons). But the way she wants to work the deal she will receive $3.84 and I will receive 16 bottles of the polish! That's .24 per bottle.

I dont understand why this manager continues to cut her nose off to spite her face.

CVS shopping today

My Cvs shopping was better than normal today. Normally they will take all manufacturer coupons and only ONE IP cvs coupon.

I did two orders. Neither netted me any new ecb's but they were good deals any way.

1st order:

6 Herbal Essence Shampoo 2 for $5 = $15
minus 3 $3 off 2 manuf. coupons
minus 1 $3 off $15 IP CVS coupon
used a $2 Ecb
used a $1 Ecb
subtotal was $0! Ka-Ching for me!!
OOP=Had to pay 6.975% sales tax of .63

Now I'm stocked up on shampoo for 6 months!! I love CVS!

2nd order:
4 Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Polish @ .99 each
1 Zipper Binder $12.99

minus 1 IP CVS Beauty SH coupon $3
minus 1 IP CVS $3 off $15
OOP was $11.93, I chose not to use my ECB's on this order since I was buying the binder to reorganize my coupons. I've been wanting to try this system but all the binders I've seen are so expensive and I really didnt like how they were made.

I'm working on the binder and will post some pics after I have it done.

Happy Hounding those deals! I gotta go get some more of those nail polish tomorow. They are going in the girls' gift baskets for Christmas! What girl wont like FREE nail polish?

CVS this week.

Be sure to check out the $5 CVS Challenge that Keeping the Kingdom is hosting this week.

Grilled Brown Sugar Bananas

This dessert can be prepared once the camp fire has died down.

1. Slice bananas in half lengthwise. Place on a sheet of foil and sprinkle with lemon juice and brown sugar. Dot with butter pieces.

2. Fold foil into a packet and place on grill. Cook for 15 minutes (5 min on red hot coals), or until bananas are hot and sugar is melted. Serve immediately.
Just look at this pic... OMG! I know it's not being served in a foil pack, and probably wasnt cooked on a grill or camp fire, but get over it and look at the food. YUMMMMY.

Beep Beep!

Why do smoke/fire alarms wait until 11:30pm to warn you that their battery is low? I can't sleep with the persistent beeping!

I've returned from Hell.....Temporarily

I keep hearing others say that if their home is not organized and clean they feel uncomfortable, uneasy, and frazzled.

I was begining to feel that way but couldnt put my finger on why. Then it all made sense after reading several blogs that mentioned it was because their homes were cluttered and unorganized.

I started thinking about why I hated doing laundry, and procrastinated when it came to it so bad and I figured it out. Actually doing the laundry is no big deal to me...BUT once it's done it is a major hassle to put it away in my home. All my closets (except for my stockpile pantry) are in disaray. We have wonderfully big closets BUT there is a clothing rod and a shelf in them and that's it. They need something more.

So I decided to start on boy wonder's closet first and therefore yesterday morning I bravely and slowly, fearing for my life, entered the zone in my home known as the hell hole. Here's a (oh my god I cant believe I'm putting this out there for all of you to see) BEFORE pic. It took me forever to clean that mess out. I found two bags of chips, 3 golf clubs, 6 baseball bats, 1 hockey stick, 5 baseballs, 1 basketball, and 1 soccer ball hidden in there! None of which is supposed to be in his bedroom closet. We have plenty of other storage places for these outside sporting items. Not to mention all the other broken toys/stuff I had to throw away. And there will be more purging today.

I hounded around for some type of organizer system and found the best price at a local Sutherlands made by Rubbermaid for $37.99. Hubby brought it home and it's now installed.

Now this am I'm off to find some tubs to put his "stuff" in and plastic hangers. I've decided wire hangers are not good for him. I'll post a pic of the finished closet as soon as I get it done. That maybe a while, that room is notrotious! Did I spell that right? Oh well, I'm sure "the major" will be along to correct me if I'm wrong.

Campfire Apple Cobbler

Campfire Apple Cobbler
• 2 cans apple pie filling
• 2 envelopes of apple cinnamon instant oatmeal (opt)
• 1 stick butter
• 1 yellow cake mix
• cinnamon or brown sugar (opt)
• charcoal briquets (opt)

1. Empty pie filling into a cast iron dutch oven (line dutch oven with aluminum pan or heavy duty aluminum foil for easy cleaning).

2. Dump in cake mix, top with oatmeal and dot with butter cubes.

3. Sprinkle cinnamon or brown sugar on top

4. If using a cast iron dutch oven, place pot on top of 6 to 8 charcoal briquets and 6 to 8 on top of lid. Bake 45 minutes to 1 hour. Be sure to rotate dutch oven and lid to avoid burning.

5. If no cast iron dutch oven is available, use a large pan with a lid over a campfire. Watch it closely to prevent burning.

6. Variations:
Blueberry pie filling with blueberry muffin mix
Cherry pie filling with chocolate cake mix

At home in your oven: Bake 350 for 1 hour.

At home in your crockpot: Spray crock sleeve with non stick butter spray. After layering ingredients, top crockpot sleeve with a double layer of paper towels, then place on lid. Cook for 4-6 hours on low.
Another great variation for crockpot is: 1 can cherry pie filling, 2 cans diced pears in their juice, 1 yellow cake mix, 1 pkg Instant Oatmeal (maple & Brown Sugar) This is often called a Cherry Pear Buckle.

Frozen Yummy Banana Treats

Chocolate Covered Banana Pops

6 ripe bananas
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Peel bananas and cut in half. Insert a wooden stick into the flat end of each banana half. Lay bananas on a cookie sheet and freeze until hard, approx. two-three hours. Wrap each banana in foil and store in your freezer.

Crispy Banana Pops

Chocolate Covered Banana Pops
