I don't know about you all, but I am done with winter! I am so happy the sun has shined here for the last two days, but it has given me spring fever..... BAD! So I've been putting away the winter colors and bringing out the spring. One of my favorite ways to bring spring to the main area of our home is to redo my table.
Yellow is always a great spring color! Here's what I did...
A lighter table cloth would be more spring-y, until I "find" one, this will have to do. Everything was items I already had on hand (most came from thrift stores or gleened from the trash), so it was easy on my budget. Fresh cut flowers that fill the room with their wonderful scent always helps my mood also.
So do tell, what do you do to chase away the winter blues? Do you change certain decor in your home from season to season?
I'm off to iron that table cloth!

Decorating your home with trash
Decorating your home on a tight budget can still be rewarding and fun and best of all FREE!
Check out my latest finds from the trash. It amazes me what some people throw away!
This candelabra will be going in my foyer where the rest of my accents are black. I bought a bag of 12 tea lights for $1 at the Dollar Tree store.
When I seen this piece I snatched it up before my friend could grab it. It can be used two different ways. You can sit it on the floor, say for a fireplace screen or can be hung on the wall.
Then after getting it home I thought "I need 8 votive cups and candles for that sucker! I knew I could pick up a box of 4 candles for $1, but I didnt want to spend $1 a piece on the votive cups. So I hung it in the garage and have been keeping my eye out for some cheap votives.
I seen a garage sale and stopped by and guess what I found for .10 each? The gal had about 50 of them from her wedding reception she was getting rid of! So for a total of $2.80 I now have a candle screen for my fireplace.
Trash finds like this make me so happy! And hubby found a WONDERFUL piece yesterday for me that I can't wait to show you too. Spring is around the corner and people will be cleaning out basements, garages, and attics. I can't wait.
So tell me about your latest trash, thrift store, flea/antique market or garage/rummage sale finds.

Suggestions & Ideas Wanted
I need some suggestions and ideas on how to repurpose this entertainment center.
I've had it sitting in the garage since I removed it from kiddo's bedroom two or three months ago. Hubby is tired of it being there and wants to throw it on the burn pile!
I was wanting to repurpose it for my studio/craft/sewing room that I am redoing.
Have any of you seen any ideas on the internet? The only thing I can find is how to make it into a kid's play kitchen.
I need some ideas and photos for inspiration before he makes me burn it!

My Valentine Gift For Hubby
Last week when I posted my frugal Valentine ideas I mentioned making a Love Box. I wanted to do one of those for my hubby and I finished it today.
I started with this plastic heart box I bought for $1 at the Dollar General store.
I collected my tokens to fill the box.
Then I typed out what each stood for and placed it in the lid.
Next came dressing the box up a little using the hot glue gun, lace and a valentine left over from kiddo's.
Love the purple and pink ribbon around the bottom!
This was a fun project and I'm sure hubby will love it!

Aren't these the cutest?
Kiddo made them at school yesterday.
I've seen the paint can projects and never thought about using a smaller can.
I havnt been allowed to open mine yet. I asked him what was in them and he said chocolate kisses and a valentine note. He also told me that the cans had been opened from the bottom to preserve the pull top.
So I went searching and found this project page. {CLICK HERE} Looks pretty simple and quick!

Frugal Heart Candy Cane Suckers
I was visiting Amy at The Idea Room and she had made the cutest heart suckers for Valentine's Day out of left over Christmas mini candy canes. You can check out her instructions HERE.
I decided since I had a box of them left over I would make some too. BUT I had no sucker/lollipop sticks! Living in a rural area and not wanting to make a 50 mile round trip to buy any I started racking my brain what I could use instead.
This is what I came up with...
I had a package of bamboo forks and wood skewers. I settled on the skewers cutting each one into 3 pieces. It worked like a charm! I saved the $3 for the sticks and 50 miles of gas.
My boys like milk chocolate so I used some chips I had in the freezer. It didnt take many to make a dozen suckers. I also didnt have any of the nonpareils so I sprinkled mine with red sugar that was leftover from last year.
Then I wrapped them using some valentine heart sandwich baggies I had on hand (bought for $1) and used some red string from my craft stash.
It was a fun morning using only items I had on hand making it a very frugal project. Kiddo immediately asked if he could have one when he came in from school.

Time To Pay It Forward
Back in October I received a package in the mail from my friend Annie from Real Life Living. Annie blogs about keeping life real, taking care of her husband and daughter, cooking and crafting.
A while back, Annie participated in a Pay It Forward Meme, offering to send a specialized homemade gift to the first three people who responded to her post and asked for one. Of course, I jumped all over that!
Here's what she sent: A crocheted shower back washer & soap buddie made from really soft yearn. And since I dont crochet well, I loved them all and couldn't wait to use them!
Now it's my turn to Pay It Forward! I'm a little late getting this out there (sorry Annie) but felt people were too busy with the holidays to participate.
Here's How It Works:
The first three people to comment on this post (and this post only) will receive a handmade item from me within three months, completely free of charge. Be sure to leave me your email address so I can contact you. I have some great readers and this is a way for me to reward some of you. You don't get a set date, but just know that some day within the next three months, you'll receive a surprise package in the mail from me.
Then you agree to Pay It Forward yourself by sending a gift to the first three people who respond to your post. The gifts should be handmade by you for that person. There are so many options such as a gift from your kitchen, knitting, crocheting, sewing, scrapboooking, something from your computer, etc.
So, who's in? I'm feeling crafty today!

Let Me Call You Sweetheart: Frugal Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be expensive. The more intimate, personal and from the heart a valentine gift is the longer it will be remembered. Keep in mind, the presentation of a gift is just as important as the gift itself.
· Get your card postmarked LOVELand, Colorado with a special hand-stamped unique four line poem. The Loveland Chamber of Commerce organizes this yearly romance project with cards going to all 50 states and over 100 foreign countries. Just enclose your pre-addressed, pre-stamped Valentine's card in a larger envelope and mail to: Postmaster, Attn: Valentines, Loveland CO 80537. DEADLINE: your card must reach them by February 9th. Read more HERE for details.
· Hand Write a Love letter-- Make it romantic, passionate and heartfelt. Relay your fondest memories of that person. Explain why you adore him/her. Keep your handwriting neat, use ink and special stationary. A love letter is a frugal gift in terms of price but that doesn't mean it should lack quality, dedication, and heart-felt intentions
· Love Coupon book- Use your computer and printer to make a special coupon book for hugs, kisses, massages, a favorite meal, etc.
· Message in a bottle- I’ve seen these at Walgreens and other stores. Why not make your own! Use a red sharpie to write on a piece cut from a brown paper bag. It could be a love letter or poem. Suggestion: {Name of your Love} My love for you is deeper than the ocean. {your name} or use this printable from LovingYou. Then, roll it up, tie it with a ribbon and place in a beer or wine bottle and cork the top. Tie a handmade tag addressed to the person around the neck of bottle.
· Send a dozen red kisses. Cut 12 squares from tissue wrapping paper. Put on some red or dark lipstick and plant a kiss on each piece.
· Make a music cd of songs that hold meaning to you and your love.
· Skip the inflated prices of dinner and go out for a dessert date.
· Make your own chocolates. Fudge, chocolate pudding, sweet salty chocolate brownies, chocolate peanut clusters, hot chocolate, chocolate cokes, chocolate dipped strawberries. You can even make your own truffles. Here’s a fun & simple recipe: Valentine Truffles
· No money for a dozen red roses? Make Your Own! Hershey Kiss roses
· Check your community calendars. Most communities will have free concerts on Valentine’s Day
· Love Box/Jar—Find an empty jar or box. Decorate with tissue paper, napkins or paint, ribbon and a personalized label. Fill with 50 reasons why you love your partner and what makes them wonderful written on slips of paper. Or fill the jar with objects that represent the many ways you love your honey. Here's some inspiration:
Skittles: You are the gold at the end of my rainbow.
Band-ade: Because I trust you to help heal all my wounds.
Cotton balls: to soften the rough times.
Toothpick: I wouldn't pick anyone else.
Rubber band: For how flexible and understanding you are.
Lucky penny: How lucky I was to find you.
Mirror: Because you help me see the real me.
Seeds: Because I look forward to growing old with you.
Chapstick: For all the making-out we haven't done yet.
Popcorn kernels: For how often you pop into my mind.
Polaroid of you laughing or with a huge smile: In case you need a reminder of how happy you make me.
Candle: You’re the light of my life
Stick of gum: for all the times you’ve stuck by me
Write out a list that includes a description of all the things in the jar. Roll it up and tie it to the jar with a ribbon.

Walgreens .50 Club Crackers!
I know this may be a regional coupon but I found $1/1 Club Cracker coupons in my Parade Magazine this week. This magazine is a supplement to our metropolitan paper.
Walgreens has Club Crackers on sale 2/$5 and then you receive a $2 register reward.
So the final cost after using two of the $1 coupons will be .50 a box!
Walgreens Cheap Hasbro Card Games
There are several printable coupons on my coupon widget in the sidebar for Hasbro games. These card games can be found at Wal-Mart, Target and Walgreens.
The price for them at my Walgreens is $6.49. I'll be purchasing a few of them and pay the difference with Register Rewards making them FREE for me. These will come in handy for a small Valentine gift for my son, Easter gifts and Christmas stocking stuffers next year.
Hounding with Thrifty Puppy has Wal-Mart and Target prices listed on her blog. Go HERE for the details. Most are $5.24.
Thanks Thrifty Puppy!

SALES CYCLES: REGULAR PRICES, PHANTOM SALES PRICES, ROCK-BOTTOM PRICES
by Jenny's Mom
Is your pantry, 'fridge and freezer empty at the end of every week? Are you living paycheck-to-paycheck in grocery land?
Have you ever wondered why your favorite spaghetti sauce is $2.99 one week and then the very next week you see it's "on sale" for $2.49?
When you see the price drop that 50 cents that is the phantom sales price. The store knows that a certain number of people will fall for that ploy and buy it because they think they are saving money.
Patience is the name of the grocery game and you can save big bucks IF you get to know the sales cycles on your most bought items.
Come in a few weeks later and that $2.99 jar of spaghetti sauce is no longer $2.49, but is now at $1.99. This is the new lower phantom sales price… but it's not time to buy yet.
Wait longer (usually in the 10th-12th week) and it will probably hit the rock-bottom price of 2/$3 or even 10/$10 or .99 each. This is the rock-bottom price and you want to buy now.
When it hits rock-bottom price, use coupons and STOCK UP! Manufacturer coupons are free money! Expiration dates have a window of 4-12 weeks and that gives you plenty of time to wait out the sales cycles and you will be saving HUGE!
Learning the sales cycles (keep a price book) and adding coupons when rock-bottoms hit will slash your grocery budget and fill your pantry & freezer quickly.
Every time you reach for an item you have stockpiled at home you save money by not hopping in your car (less gas) and buying that item at the regular price or phantom price the store is hoping you will buy it at.
