The other day when I went to the store I scored Pillsbury Big & Buttery Crescent rolls on clearance for .99 a can. I had a coupon for .75 off 3, so I paid .74 per can. I had never seeen these before, have you? There are only 6 in each large can, but each roll is 50% bigger than a regular crescent.
I had been wanting to fix some Ham-n-Cheese Hot Pockets with the .50 bags of Farmland Diced Ham I had scored and some of those yummy Apple Dummplings that Pioneer Woman introduced me to, but had been waiting on a sale. BINGO!
The Ham-n-Cheese Hot Pockets graced our table the other night. A picture of them is on my Monday Menu Plan post. Today I will be making the Apple Dumplings.
Here's a re-post of the recipe. I don't have any apples, so I will be using a can of apple pie filling today.

It is so easy, it's illegal. ONLY 7 ingredients. ONLY 2 apples! If you want a lovely pictorial lesson in preparing these evil treats, then leave right now and go to her place. The woman is not only a wonderful cook, but an excellent photographer!
Here's the bare bones, no frills recipe.
Apple Dumplings
2 Granny Smith apples (I've even used a can of apple pie filling!)
2 cans crescent rolls
2 sticks butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 teaspoons vanilla
cinnamon
1 small can Mountain Dew
Peel and core apples. Cut apples into 8 slices each. Roll each apple slice in a crescent roll. Place in a 9 x 13 buttered pan. Melt butter, then add sugar and barely stir. Add vanilla, stir, and pour over apples. Pour Mountain Dew around the edges of the pan. Sprinkle with cinnamon and bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Serve with ice cream, and spoon some of the sweet sauces from the pan over the top.
Then go to confession. Quickly.

ReplyDeleteI wouldn't use canned pie filling. Pioneer Woman's dumplings are so sweet the way it is, that might be overboard. Then again, for a sugar junkie like me, they might be heaven! Quick, make up a batch and let us know! (I tell me you ate the whole pan so I feel better about myself :)

ReplyDeletecvs The last time I made these with pie filling I only used 1 cup sugar and they were great. We also love cinnamon so that made them even better! I'm hoping to make them tonight. I got interrupted last night. It will be an experiment cause I will only be using one can of the BIG crescent rolls. I'll take a pic and post and let you know how we like it with the big crescents... but I really don't see how anyone can not love these. You have to be a sugar addict though. lol
Update: we loved these made with the big & buttery rolls just as well. The pie filling is a little messy to use, but I asked the guys what they thought compared to apples and they said they liked it better. The apples in the pie filling are softer. I forgot to take a pic again before they ate them all up. lol
