Feeling Nervous & Overwhelmed

I've been feeling nervous and overwhelmed in regards to the holiday season this year.

When I stopped and thought about why, here are the reasons:

1) Additions to my family- a daughter-in-law and THREE granddaughters, ages 4, 6, 9.
2) My mother has asked me to host Christmas dinner in my home this year. I never thought this would happen in a MILLION years you guys. My mother is easy going when it comes to holidays EXCEPT Christmas. I still can't believe she is letting this go, and it makes me nervous.
3) The Christmas counter at the top of my site has lost count. I'm serious! It can't be right! It is totally stressing me out, so I deleted it! Take that Christmas counter. :)

Ok, I feel a little better, and if the counter was stressing you out, I hope you feel more at ease visiting here now.

What is your game plan for the holidays this year? Are you exchanging names for a gift drawing or buying for all?

  1. We have the most stress-free Christmas of anyone we know.

It's been years since either my family or Shane's has participated in Christmas gatherings or gift exchanges. We try to visit my parents sometime in December but I probably won't see any of my brothers and sisters at all. We usually go out for Christmas Eve breakfast with Shane's Dad and step-mom. Shane's mom lives nearby for the first time since we've been married, so she'll probably want to do something, but none of these events will include gift-exchanges. For what it's worth, when our families did have holiday gatherings, we always drew names instead of buying for all.

I still need to talk to my daughter and son-in-law to see if they want to exchange a gift each or not. We didn't last year and didn't seem to miss it.

Shane and I don't exchange gifts, either. If the Christmas budget allows, we might buy ourselves a couple of "gifts" while we're out shopping for Kat.

That leaves buying gifts for Kat, one for her teacher and possibly one for Shane's boss (sometimes he IS the boss, so it will depend on the work situation when the time comes). My birthday is near Christmas, so we'll go out to eat for that and I know of two cookie exchanges and maybe a party to go to.

We'll just stay home Christmas morning and have special treats throughout the day, and Kat will probably go with her mom and step-dad to his (step-dad's) family for some fun. Shane and I will just stay home and relax.
