Make your own homemade dishwasher detergent. It's quick. It's easy. And it's cheap! For each load, mix 2 tablespoons baking soda with 2 tablespoons borax. Place in main wash cup as like always.
ETA: I've found that as long as I add vinegar to the rinse dispenser or a regular rinse agent, this cleans my dishes wonderfully.
Do you use this all the time? I tried it in the past with poor results. I'm not sure why, unless it was because our water was hard. We have a softener here, though, so I may try it again.

ReplyDeleteannie no I dont use it all the time. Right now I have dishwashing tabs I bought for .49 a box, which was cheaper than buying borax. But, yes I do use this when I have no dishwashing dertergent that I got for free or really cheap.
ReplyDeleteSome it works great for, some dont like it. I would guess it depends upon your dishwasher, water pressure and other things. We always rinse our dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. This will have a big impact on the results also.

You need some soap in it. I used to make a bunch of this but with dishwasher soap and then the borax and baking soda added to stretch it. But since my dishwasher repairman told me years ago to only use 1 tsp. of Cascade in each cup, it lasts forever.

ReplyDeletePrecious yep, I agree. I've also used it to stretch cascade. But when I get the almost free boxes of electrasol tabs there really is no stretching them.

Everyone will just have to try this for themselves and see if it works for you. I truly believe there are several factors that come in to play like I mentioned before.
